Years ago before “staging” was a buzz word in real estate I had a listing that wasn’t selling. It was a difficult time in the market and properties took a long time to sell. I wasn’t convinced however that the current market conditions applied to this property because it was in a desirable location, had a great floor plan and my client had upscale furniture and original artwork. I was perplexed and I had to do something. I asked my seller if I could spend some time at the property because I wanted to “tweak” things. I spent 5 hours going room by room editing out unnecessary items, rearranging furniture for greater flow and rehanging artwork. My client called that evening and was thrilled with the changes in her home. Within 5 days she had a full price offer! I was Sold! That was 1991 and since then I have helped every seller prepare their property for the market and when appropriate recommend professional staging. (more…)
